Empties #2 | Makeup

Hey my lovelies, hope you've all had a good week and welcome back for the second instalment of my Empties post, where we will be talking all things makeup. Similar to last Friday's post, I'm going to be running through the products I have used up recently and sharing my thoughts on them. Likewise to before, if you see any products in this post which you fancy purchasing yourself and giving a go, then you can click the product name and it will take you to a website where these items can be purchased from ☺️ (Disclaimer: If some items have been discontinued, I will try and link alternative products). Grab yourselves a beverage and some biscuits and lets get into today's post!

Base Products

Revolution Conceal and Hydrate Radiance Concealer in C3 - A concealer that has definitely had it's hype over the last 12 months or so. I absolutely love Revolution as a brand, and especially their concealers. This one is actually different to the original formula, with the focus being more on radiance than coverage. I find this one is not as cakey as the original and doesn't crease as much under my eyes, which is something I find using other concealers. It works well if I'm doing a full-face of makeup or just applying a little concealer, and is one I have and will continue to repurchase.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - Now this is an absolute classic in the makeup world. This was probably the first concealer I ever tried and I have repurchased it multiple times over the years. I do have to admit, my Revolution concealer has knocked this one off the top spot as I find it can be cakey sometimes. Unfortunately, I did always find I struggled with the limited shade range for this concealer but I do know Collection have recently had a re-brand and have created a lot of new shades which is fab!

Maybelline Superstay 24H Liquid Foundation in 20 Cameo - Now about twelve months ago I was in the market for a new foundation and I saw one of the many beauty YouTubers I watch raving about this one. It's marketed as a full-coverage foundation which is long-lasting and I have to agree with the above. It's a buildable foundation, so can be as full-coverage as you wish and lasts all day. I'd say it has a satin finish, somewhere between matte and extra-dewy. I also go a couple of shades darker than my actual skin-tone so it matches my gradual tan. All I would say is you have to blend this foundation quickly when applying as it dries down really fast, which I presume is what makes it so long-lasting on the skin.

NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil in Natural Soft Beige - Another beauty product I purchased off the bat of YouTube recommendations. This is a lovely light, tinted moisturiser which forms part of NYX's "no-makeup" makeup range. It blends seamlessly into the skin and forms the perfect base for those days where you want a little something but not a full-face. This is one I'm definitely going to be adding to my repurchase list!

Face Products

✨ Maybelline Master Strobe Highlighter in Light - Now I'm a huge highlighter fan, but this was my first venture into the world of cream highlighters. Like the NYX tinted skin veil, this is the perfect addition to any light makeup days. On days where I didn't want to wear too much makeup, I would apply this over the top of my foundation before I powder for a nice subtle glow, and on fuller-face days I'd apply a powder highlighter over the top. The shade range isn't great, like a lot of these kinds of products on the drugstore market, and instead or repurchasing I think I will try and get my hands on a different cream highlighter, maybe one with a little more colour to it. Let me know down below if you have any recommendations.

MUA Translucent Pressed Powder - Coming in as the cheapest product in this post, this powder costs a minor £1.50 and can be purchased from most Superdrug stores and online. MUA were probably the first makeup brand I ever ventured into and this was the first powder I ever brought (obviously not this exact one). Controversially, I prefer this to the infamous Rimmel Stay Matte, which I find can be a bit heavy and the packaging is awful! This is far more sturdy for chucking in your handbag and applying throughout the day.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush in 010 Santa Rose - Unfortunately, I don't think this blusher is available anymore so must be discontinued, however there are some people selling it on Amazon and Ebay. This is the perfect shade for any of my pale girls out there. A lovely light pink, this is my perfect subtle blusher shade and I'm really sad to see the end of this one. I don't know whether it's a Rimmel thing, but the packaging on this one broke really quickly which made it difficult to travel with and meant I had to use other blushers a lot of the time. It's also a ridiculously small pan which I still can't understand why. I have linked a blusher that is a similar shade, just slightly darker.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder Bronzer - Another discontinued product, but one I have loved for years. I have gone through many of these in the past and it's a product I'm really shocked Soap&Glory have decided to discontinue as it always seemed really popular. I actually saw they were selling these in Boots, half price, to get rid of the stock so made sure I stocked up there and then. I have linked the product which has replaced this but I have to say they are nothing alike and this one does not appeal to me at all. I have seen some sellers on Ebay selling the Solar Powder Bronzer if you do want to give it a try but I'd always be cautious buying makeup from sites like that as you never know whether it has been used or not.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer - I know this is really annoying, but sadly this is another discontinued product. I remember a YouTuber saying this was a perfect bronzer for pale skin back in the day so new I had to give it a try. It's a lovely consistently, a really soft powder, and the colour pay off is subtle so it's hard to overdo it. The colour hasn't always been right for me, as it can be more on the orange side for a bronzer, but when I'm slightly more tanned this works lovely. I have linked another powder which is a part of the Honey collection, but I definitely recommend giving The Body Shop makeup a try if you haven't already. Plus, its cruelty free!

Eye Products

NYX Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in Brunette - Let me introduce you to a brow product which will change... your... life! Now I've tried brow pomade's there is no turning back. They might seem like a pain to begin with, having to find the right brush and get the right shape when applying, but once you nail the technique this gives you the micro bladed brow look without the pain or cost. I match this to my roots and use the brunette shade, but they have a whole host of others to make sure you find the one which matches you best. I definitely recommend giving this a go if you've never tried a brow pomade before as it doesn't break the bank and could change your brow game forever.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe - For me, NYX are king of the brow products. On days where I'm not wearing makeup, I might just fill in the sparse areas of my brows with the NYX micro brow pencil. I get a slightly lighter shade so it's difficult to make mistakes and the fine tip means it's easy to draw in the little hairs and mimic a natural, fluffy brow look. I've heard this is similar to the very famous Benefit 'Precisely My Brow Pencil' but without the higher end price tag. If you're in the market for new brow products and don't want to spend a fortune, then definitely check-out NYX's brow range.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara - Now I'm going to make a bold statement here, but I think this is my favourite mascara of all time. Mascara is one of those things that once I finish one, I purchase a completely different one to try out, but this one I keep coming back to time and time again. I find it holds a curl, is really black, and doesn't transfer, so what's not to love? I've tried both higher end and drugstore mascaras over the years and this will continue to be the one I repurchase.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara with Oil Blend - Now I know I've just raved about the lash sensational mascara, but this particular version I was not a fan of. I felt the oil blend made it really watery, and I always feel mascaras are better to apply once they're slightly more dried up. I also prefer a more curved brush to my mascaras instead of straight ones, which is why I love the original lash sensational so much, but unfortunately this particular formula does not have the same brush as the others which means it doesn't hold a curl as well. I'd definitely give this one a miss if I was you!

Lips

MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy - My favourite lipstick of all time! If you see me wearing anything on my lips, then 9 times out of 10 it's this lipstick. I have many lipsticks and lip products, like any makeup lover, but lipstick is something I barely ever wear. I do normally prefer a more matte formula, especially during the colder months, and MAC lipsticks are just an absolute classic. However, I am now trying to shop from brands who are cruelty free, and I know MAC definitely are not the best when it comes to their ethical standards, which is a real shame considering they are an absolute staple in the makeup world and loved by so many people. If you are still purchasing from them, then they do offer a 10% student discount from Unidays.

So there we go my loves, that concludes today's Empties #2, Makeup edition. Hope you all enjoyed hearing my thoughts on these products and have maybe added a few to your list to try. My stand-out favourites are definitely the NYX products and Revolution concealer! Let me know in the comments below, or over on my Instagram (@faithtrustandlotsofbooks) 3 makeup staples which you can not live without? Hope you are all keeping well, and I'll see you next Friday for another blog post. Lots of love xoxo
